Video: SCCA Runoffs 2003 - GT1 class

Hello again everyone! It's been a while since my last post but some personal misfortunes kind of got in the way of things for a good long while so I had to take a break for a bit until I could get a bit more caught up. No, I didn't crash, lose, immolate, disintegrate, defenestrate, or otherwise destroy one of my cars but I definitely had some big problems for a while and maybe I'll find time to post about it later on.

Anyway - happier topics! Starting today I'm uploading some new videos from my archive. These will be more racing videos but unlike the previous ones these will be covering the biggest amateur road racing championship in the US of A: the SCCA National Championship Runoffs!

For those unfamiliar, the SCCA or Sports Car Club of America has been the major sanctioning organization for amateur motor racing in the States for decades. Since all the way back in 1944 the SCCA has run events covering a wide range of auto racing including road racing, rallycross, time trials, and track days. Big names like Paul Newman, Caroll Shelby, and Bob Sharp have raced in the SCCA with a lot of talented amateurs becoming professionals after making a name for themselves.

The Runoffs are basically the Super Bowl of SCCA amateur racing with talented racers, mostly the champions of the organization's many regions, coming to one track for a winner-takes-all final race to see who'll be the national title holder for the year. There are tons of categories ranging from formula cars to silhouette GT cars to spec racers so there's always plenty of action. Being a big fan of GT and touring car racing I ended up recording those categories especially since they're where you can find most of the Nissans.

Unfortunately there'll be no JDM stuff in today's video because it covers GT1 - the top-spec GT category that has silhouette cars powered by sheer Amerikuh! Most of the vehicles in GT1 are ex-Trans Am racers so Corvettes and Mustangs are the order of the day with an occasional Oldsmobile to remind people GM used to make more than trucks. Don't let the "amateur" aspect fool you, these drivers are fast and talented and there's plenty of close racing to excite any proper race fan. Please enjoy!
