Video: Japan GT Championship 2002 Race 2 Highlights

The second round of the 2002 Japan GT Championship was scheduled to be the longest with 500 kilometers to be covered on the track named after Japan's most famous landmark: Fuji Speedway.

The first round had seen Honda NSXs and Toyota Supras dominate the proceedings so would Fuji see the return to form of Nissan's legendary GT-Rs or would a dark horse independent entry spark some action in GT500?

GT300 would also see the debut of a dark horse independent entry – the RD320R mid-engine racer from diminutive builder Vemac. This David would have to go up against the Goliaths of Japan's largest car manufacturer, Toyota with its MR-S, and the pedigreed German sports car builder Porsche with its proven 911.

The race was action-packed indeed with multiple incidents leading to several safety car periods. Just as one team seemed to be gaining the upper hand the advantage would shift radically. All of this made for a classic race that's well worth repeated viewing! Enjoy!
