Video: 24 Hours of Nurburgring 2003

Apologies for the lack of recent posts, dear readers. Towards the end of October I traveled to my old home of the Philippines for a long vacation and then after getting back immediately plunged into one thing after another. Lately I've been busy getting ready for that little-known holiday called Christmas that my adopted home of the US and A has taught me is marked by people getting together to share their germs whilst a creepy old man tries to break into your house just to steal cow secretions and baked goods. And soon after that strange holiday I'm making plans to return to that fabled land across the ocean that my GT-Rs used to call home! No, not Canada. Japan!

But that trip will be a story for another time. Today instead I present you another favorite old racing video, this time of the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring!

Any gearhead worth his salt will have heard of the legendary Nurburgring. The 154 corners of the circuits “Nordschleife” or North Loop are where manufacturers like Porsche, Nissan, BMW, Honda, GM, and so on like to show off their cars' handling prowess and outright speed. The shorter Grand Prix section of the course is a favorite venue for Formula 1 races.

Now imagine putting both the Nordschleife and the GP circuit together and then unleashing 200 or so race cars driven by 800 or so drivers for a full 24 straight hours of racing and that in a nutshell is the awesomesauce that is the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring. With that many cars plenty of racing action is guaranteed especially when the speed of the cars and the quality of the drivers vary from full-on factory teams to amateur privateer efforts.

Held since 1970, the 2003 edition was notable for a few things. It was the first time DTM cars competed – and you should know how awesome those are from my previous video posts. BMW also entered its mighty V8-powered M3 GTRs. For JDM fans though another GT-R was far more important – the R34 Skyline GT-R campaigned by Falken Motorsports in that lovely green and blue livery of theirs!

That R34 gets quite a bit of screentime in this summary video of the race so I hope you'll enjoy this new upload!
